Are you the one chinese dating show
The show is a cultural phenomenon in China, where each episode is watched by up to 50 million people.
Mr Mc Mahon was one of 10 men and 16 women who travelled to China for the Australian specials."I thought I'd put myself out there and find out if I was the one," Mr Mc Mahon told 774 ABC Melbourne's Rafael Epstein.
The 2017 revision is the second version of the show and was launched on May 13, 2017 with a different format from the original version that launched in 2010.
The single man divide twenty-four women into two groups of twelve, the "heartthrob" group and the observation group, before any conversation between the women and the single man has taken place.
‘If You Are The One’ — in Chinese, ‘Fei Cheng Wu Rao’ — has become an unlikely hit for Australia’s youth-oriented SBS2 channel since the network decided to start broadcasting it with English subtitles in 2013.
Non-Chinese contestants have remained rare, however. The upcoming Australian specials will be the most diverse episodes to date.
The show's popularity and social commentary has drawn attention of academics and foreign media, and after concerns from Chinese regulators in 2011 the show's format was tweaked to de-emphasize factors such as financial wealth.
For Chinese contestants and their parents, such diversity might not be easy to take.
Australian candidate Joe Sweeney left the show without a date when the woman he had chosen rejected him, saying her parents might not approve of a relationship with a foreigner.
After living in China for two years, Sweeney says her decision didn’t surprise him. “A recent British contestant — looking very British — was able to keep every Chinese female candidate interested in him at least in the first round,” Jing Han says.
At any point after dividing the women into two groups, the single man chooses his favorite two girls initially known to himself and the host, who are then revealed shortly after and then asked to proceed to the gold podiums for the duration of the round until replaced or after the final outcome of the round.
The single man uses two video clips to reveal some personal information such as occupation, interests and love history.
